In January, 2009 it was reported that Energy and Minerals Group (formerly known as NGP Midstream & Resources LP) had invested $200 million of start-up capital in a joint venture with Mark West Energy for processing Marcellus shale gas. M&R was to own 40% of the venture and Mark West to have 60%. MarkWest had agreed to invest in the venture through contribution of assets and funds. The combined entity was to be known as MarkWest Liberty Midstream & Resources.
