Merrillville, Ind.-based NiSource (NYSE: NI) (aka NiSource Energy Ventures, LLC) is a gas transmission public utility that serves 3.8 million customers ranging from Texas to New England. Columbia Gas Transmission is its subsidiary. It owns an extensive gas pipeline system in West Virginia.

Wiki Note: In July, 2009 NiSource Energy Ventures, LLC was also described in a press release from a third party company, CNX as subsidiary of Columbia Energy Group, so the exact parental relationship of Columbia versus NiSource is not entirely apparent.
