Here is where some info about the NiSource
should go. This article is still a stub and needs your
attention. It does not have a template and contains minimal
information. Please dive in and help it grow!

Houston, Texas-based NiSource (NYSE: NI) (aka NiSource Energy Ventures, LLC) is a gas transmission public utility that serves 3.8 million customers ranging from Texas to New England. Columbia Gas Transmission is its subsidiary. It owns roughly 15,000 miles of pipeline, 37 storage fields, as well as an extensive gas pipeline system in West Virginia. Doddridge, Marshall, and Wetzel counties in West Virginia are served by NiSource pipelines that transport Marcellus shale production. Hardy Storage and Crossroads Pipeline are also subsidiaries.

Wiki Note: In July, 2009 NiSource Energy Ventures, LLC was also described in a press release from third party company, CNX, as subsidiary of Columbia Energy Group. The line of descent between Columbia and NiSource is yet to be made completely clear.

In May, 2010 NiSource announced a joint venture with MarkWest Liberty in northern West Virginia to expand Marcellus shale gathering, processing and transmission projects in the area. The gas was to be delivered into a planned MarkWest processing facility located in the small town of Smithfield in Wetzel Co., WV.
