Indiana, PA-based Superior Well Services, Inc. (NASDAQ GS: SWSI) is an oilfield services company with a specialty in technical pumping and down-hole surveying services. In August, 2010, Superior was purchased by Hamilton, Bermuda-based Nabors Industries Ltd..
In February, 2009, Superior was in the process of setting up a service center in the renovated Owego & Harford rail yard in Owego, New York near Binghampton. The center will serve energy companies developing the Marcellus shale. Typical activities Superior does in support of natural gas drillers are casing well borings and stimulating well production through hydro-fracturing.
In an August, 2009 operational update from the company, it was mentioned that Superior had been marketing its exclusively gamma frac slick-water system to Marcellus shale drillers. The company stated that this system reuses 25% to 50% of the flow-back water, thus minimizing the amount of waste water and its disposal costs.
