St. Marys, West Virginia-based Trans Energy Inc. (TENG.OB) is an oil and gas exploration and development company focusing on the Appalachian Basin. It has drilled a four vertical Marcellus shale wells. The Wetzel County Anderson-7H well is its first horizontal one.

In October, 2008 the company announced it was in the process of drilling a second horizontal well in Wetzel County named Hart #28H. The vertical part of the well will be drilled down to just above a kickoff point and set casing. A larger rig will then be brought in to drill the horizontal portion at a depth of around 7,000 feet.

The company owns drilling rights in four northern West Virginia counties: Doddridge, Marion, Marshall, and Wetzel.

It is in the process of building a system of gas gathering pipelines that will connect to interstate pipelines.
