Indiana, Pennsylvania-based William J. McIntire Coal, Oil and Gas Co. has served as operator and or drilling contractor for natural gas wells in Butler County's Clearfield Township and East Wheatfield Township in Indiana County.

McIntire was in the news in August, 2010 when it was negotiating with the Clearfield Area School District Board of Directors in Clearfield County regarding a lease for a Marcellus shale well in the vicinity of the Curwensville-Clearfield Country Club and the high school. The terms of the lease were $4,500 per acre up front for a 5-year lease. As of August, the offer was still pending before the Board.
