Somerset, Pennsylvania-based Allegheny Ozone Inc. is an environmental cleanup company that has an on-site process for treating waste water from Marcellus shale drilling.

The company has been working for two years with Kerfoot Technologies of Mashpee, Mass. to develop their water treatment system. It uses a patented process to separate the oil and water parts of the frac waste water. The solution that remains can then be oxidized, filtered and sanitized to the point where it can be reused.

Allegheny Ozone has portable systems that can process 100,000 gallons a day. Larger, semi-permanent facilities can handle up to 1,000,000 gallons per day.

It is also working on a methodology to drain and treat water from abandoned coal mines to reuse in hydro-fracturing gas wells.

Jeff Pyle is President of Allegheny Ozone.
