Fort Worth, Texas-based New York Shale Gas LLC (NYSG), as the name implies, has focused on building its leasehold for shale gas drilling in New York State. The company's primary emphasis is on leasing prospective land for Utica shale in Onondaga County. This area is located just west of the City of Syracuse in central New York.

An August, 2008 report found NYSG leasing drilling rights in Elbridge, NY. The Village of Elbridge is located roughly 25 miles west of Syracuse in western Onondaga County.

In March, 2009, it was reported that a NYSG landman had concluded a lease for the 141 acre Mark Bitz farm in Lysander, NY also located in Onondaga County . The terms were $50/acre plus a 1/8th royalty on the gas. It was a 5-year generic lease. The same report mentioned another lease NYSG had signed in January, 2009 for the Peter Shanahan farm near the Village of Marcellus. The terms were very similar.

A July, 2009 report indicated that NYSG had recorded 14 leases in one week in Onondaga County.

The company has a branch office on Riddings Road in Syracuse.

  • Karl Osterbuhr is President of NYSG.
