Houston, Texas-based Weatherford International Ltd. (aka Weatherford Fracturing Technologies) (NYSE: WFT) is one of the largest diversified upstream oilfield service companies in the world. Its Fracturing Technologies Group provides hydraulic fracturing services.

Weatherford was in the news in December, 2009 when it was in the process of opening a facility specializing in Marcellus shale hydraulic fracturing in Buckhannon, West Virginia in northcentral West Virginia's Upshur County. The company also has a well fishing and completion facility in neighboring Jane Lew, WV and a logging one in nearby Weston, WV. The company's regional office is in Charleston, WV.

The company was in the news in late-May, 2010 when it was in the process of opening another facility a few miles east of Williamsport in the Lycoming County, Pennsylvania Borough of Muncy. It was to be located on Industrial Park Road in the Muncy Industrial Park. Weatherford was to be anchor tenant of the 200 acre development. This location was expected to employ between 200 and 250.

Similar to the Jane Lew, WV facility, the soon-to-be Muncy, Pennsylvania one was to house well fishing equipment used in apprehending broken equipment stuck downhole. It was also to house wire line services. Wire line refers to well tools that are fastened on to electrical wires.
