Brecksville, Ohio AB Resources LLC is a privately-held, oil and gas exploration and production company focusing on Appalachian Basin exploration with over 700 wells in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. 550 are producing. According to its web site, accessed in May, 2009 the company owns drilling rights to in excess of 90,000 acres prospective for Marcellus shale.
In March, 2009 AB was reported to be actively drilling in Marshall County in West Virginia's Northern Panhandle.
A news item appeared a year later in March, 2010 indicating that AB Resources was in the process of negotiating a lease with the New Vrindaban Hare Krishna Community in Marshall County, WV. The terms were $2,500/acre with a 18.75% royalty on production. 4,000 acres were to be leased.
The same report mentioned the 90 acre John Regan farm in Marshall Co. that had been leased by AB for $5/acre a few years ago.
A news item appeared in June, 2010 about a well blowout at an AB Resources Marcellus shale well site on Beam's Lane near Moundsville, in Marshall County, West Virginia. WVDEP had asked the company to halt further drilling activities pending an investigation of the cause of the blowout. The article mentioned that AB Resources held 19 permits in Marshall Co. The well had burned for several days after the blowout which occured on June 7, 2010. Chief Oil and Gas, who had partnered with AB, was well operator. Update: WVDEP officials later allowed AB to resume drilling once violations it was cited for were addressed. Reportedly, the company had not set the well casing at the permitted depth and incorrectly reported the depth of a coal seam.
