The company was reported in late October, 2010 to be drilling a vertical well with expected ultimate depth of 13,000 to 14,000 feet at the top of Kirkwood Heights near the Village of Bridgeport. This is located along side I-70 in Belmont County, Ohio. Bridgeport is considered part of the Wheeling, West Virginia metropolitan area.
The well was expected to be the deepest one in Ohio once it reached full depth. At the time of the report, the well had reached 6,500 feet and was still drilling. The well targeted the Clinton Sandstone and Utica shale formations. It was being drilled on property leased from Georgetown Marine Inc. of St. Clairsville, Ohio.
By early January, 2011 the well had finished drilling and reached a total depth of 13,727 feet. It penetrated the Mount Simon Sandstone and had passed through both the Marcellus shale and Utica shales. It was not clear from news accounts whether the well was to be used for gas production or as an injection well for waste water.
